hese photographs of Muhammad Ali were shot throughout the 1970’s and ‘80’s while on assignments for Sports Illustrated, Sport, Time, People magazines, and, independently through the Gamma Photo Agency.
Sonia covered the legendary “Rumble in the Jungle” in Zaire and the equally historic “Thrilla in Manila” from ringside; and covered subsidiary fights during those years, up to and including Ali’s last fight in 1981 against Trevor Berbick in the Bahamas.
These archives were used as reference material for the epic film “ALI” directed by Michael Mann for Columbia Pictures.
